This all-Bach concert will present “Motet No. 1 - Singet dem Herrn” and “Orchestral Suite No. 1” by J.S. Bach and “Magnificat” by CPE Bach.

This concert features amazing vocal soloists Jonquil Koddo (soprano), Aoife Donnelly (mezzo-soprano), David Fertal (tenor), and Nicholas Allen (bass). The soloists, chorus, and orchestra will be directed by the Calgary Bach Society’s Artistic Director Terry Edwards.

Luminous Voices, Calgary’s professional choir, launches its 2014/15 season with “The Far West” - a world premiere by Calgary composer Zachary Wadsworth. Praised for its “evocative mixture of old and new,” his music has been heard in venues around the world, from the Kennedy Center in Washington to Western Abbey to Carnegie Hall in New York. Wadsworth’s new work will feature tenor soloist, American-Canadian Lawrence Wiliford, with string orchestra and choir.

This concert of Baltic music will feature the sonorous sounds and incredible virtuoso capabilities of Spiritus Chamber Choir. Guest conductor, Dr. Leonard Ratzlaff, will lead the choir along with special guests, Sara Staples, mezzo-soprano and Cheryl Emery, piano. Dr. Ratzlaff was named to a Member of the Order of Canada in 2011, in recognition of his work as a conductor and professor at the University of Alberta.

Description:

As part of Calgary Boys’ Choir’s flight-themed 2013-14 season, this exciting multimedia concert features all levels of the Calgary Boys’ Choir in classical and modern songs about flight and things that fly.

Boys will be singing flight-themed songs including Mendelssohn’s “O for the wings of a dove,” a traditional First Nations’ “Fly like an Eagle” with drumming and choreography, and Pink Floyd’s “Learning to Fly” with 6 Minute Warning, Edmonton’s male a cappella sensation.

The choir will also present “Be like a bird” by Edmonton composer, Sheila Wright.

Join the Vancouver Chamber Choir for the opening concert of our 43rd concert series. The feature work is Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s fiery "Romancero gitano", based on Spanish poems of Frederico García Lorca for which we are joined by our special guest artist - German guitarist Heiko Ossig. We celebrate the 70th birthday of BC composer Imant Raminsh with Latvian Folk Songs and explore other European colours through great choral music and poetry of Debussy and Charles d’Orléans, Hindemith and Rainer Maria Rilke, Rautavaara and even more García Lorca.
