To celebrate the university’s 50th Anniversary and the 50 years that he has played the alto saxophone, Jeremy Brown has curated his most unique solo recital in a career spanning 34 years and more than 1000 concerts.

Tonight, Brown performs within a chamber group, as a solo artist and with electronics, in a program that includes the world premiere of new works for saxophone, by Canadian composers Brent Lee and Robert Lemay, who will be in attendance.

Improvisation, jazz, classical… all performed on the sonorous saxophone (and perhaps a bit of flute).

Canada’s premiere electric guitar quartet Instruments of Happiness promises to electrify audiences in support of their eponymous debut album. The quartet will perform a daring slate of new works by Canadian composers Scott Godin (BC), Jordan Nobles (BC), Gordon Fitzell (MB), Emily Hall (ON/UK), Tim Brady (QC), and Maxime McKinley (QC); curated by Gordon Fitzell. All six new works were written expressly for the tour, and together offer a diverse, pan-Canadian perspective on what has become a vital and burgeoning form of chamber music.

On Saturday, November 14, the Canadian Opera Company presents The Bremen Town Musicians and Operation Superpower. Starring the young artists of the COC Ensemble Studio, both family-friendly operas are written specifically for young people aged three to 12. Each opera is 45 minutes in length, followed by a 15-minute Q&A with the cast and crew.

Tickets to each opera are $15 for adults, and $10 for children. Join us one hour before each show for hands-on activities related to the operas!
