C4: The Choral Composer/Conductor Collective is pleased to announce PREMIERES, a series of two workshops intended to foster growth in choral composition. C4 will present the selected works in public concerts on Saturday, October 13 and Saturday, December 1, 2018 in New York City.

Join music, dance and shadow puppet master Sutrisno Hartana in hands-on workshops exploring the instruments of Alligator Joy, a bronze gamelan from Central Java. Discover the intricate layering of rhythmic patterns, improvisation and performance rules for each instrument to create ensemble-based music of infinite depth and shimmering beauty.

Explore the rich heritage of music—from song to symphony—created in response to the vast and varied landscape and cultural communities of Canada. Participants will learn to listen with greater attention and deeper pleasure. From a prepared playlist, participants will use chance procedures to select the order of pieces so that the session will generate unexpected connections among the many musical genres.

On June 4, audiences are invited to a music writing workshop-concert hosted at the CMC. Each edition of Opus Testing begins with a unique musical assignment, and the NASA Remixed edition is our first effort to focus entirely on electronic music.

Aventa Ensemble is currently accepting submissions for its September 2012 Composer Workshop (Sept. 5 – 9). This workshop, designed to benefit student and emerging composers, has no age restriction and is open to all nationalities. Participants will have the opportunity of working extensively with composers Michael Finnissy (UK) and Michel Gonneville (QC).
