Biography:

An artist equally at home in concert, opera and music theatre repertoire, Caroline Schiller has participated in the creation and performance of opera and concert works with The Banff Centre, The Tanglewood Music Center, The Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival, Neptune Theatre, The Dartington International Institute, and The Indian River Festival. Of her concert and theatre work, highlights include the American premiere of Alexander Goehr’s "Sing Ariel" with the Boston Symphony Chamber Players and her performances in the role of Christine in the original Toronto cast of Phantom of the Opera. She has worked with conductors and directors including Marc David, Charles Dutoit, Joachim Herz, Oliver Knussen, Harold Prince and Kelly Robinson and is former winner of the prestigious Young Singer of the Year Award in Llangollen, Wales.
Caroline is Associate Professor of Voice and Director of Opera at Memorial University of Newfoundland. She holds a DM in Voice Performance from Florida State University, a MMUS in Voice Performance (Distinction in Performance/Opera) from New England Conservatory and a BMUS from Mount Allison University. Noted for her performance of Canadian repertoire, she is a frequent recitalist, adjudicator and clinician at conferences internationally and has been featured in radio broadcasts in Canada and Europe on CBC and Radio-Canada. Her doctoral thesis is an annotated bibliography entitled "A Performer’s Guide to Works for Soprano Voice by Canadian Women Composers". Caroline Schiller is founder and director of Opera RoadShow/Opéra en tournée, an opera outreach and touring program in its eleventh year and has commissioned two Canadian operas written specifically for children’s audiences. She is featured on a number of recordings most recently, "Voyage to Canada" a recording of Canadian art song and “Great Britain Triumphant!”18th-century English cantatas recorded with the baroque ensemble, Capella Savaria conducted by Mary Térey-Smith and released by Centaur.
