Instrumentation:

Instrumentation Set Number 1:
  • 1 x Piano
  • 1 x Mezzo Soprano
  • 1 x Mixed chorus
Programme Note:
Among the most traditional texts in the Christian canon, the words of the Magnificat are often marshalled in support of a sentimental appreciation of the beauty of women, as objectified and minimized by the patriarchy. It's worth noting that the mezzo-soprano solo Raminsh chooses exemplifies a real human woman, expressing her joys and confusions at feeling the stirrings of new life within her body.
