Former premier, cardiologist and playwright among Albertans named to the Order of Canada

"...Cochrane composer and University of Calgary music professor Allan Gordon Bell will be recognized “for his contributions to the promotion of Canada’s musical excellence as a composer, teacher and volunteer.”

His original compositions have been played by local and international orchestras.

In 1988, his Concerto for Two Orchestras was performed at the Olympic Arts Festival. One year later, his Arche II, as performed at the Banff International String Quartet Competition, was submitted by CBC to the International Rostrum of Composers in Paris while in 1992 his An Elemental Lyric was played at Carnegie Hall in New York.

In addition to composing, Bell is the past president of the National Board of the Canadian Music Centre..."
