Programme Note:
‘in those apple trees’ was originally written for three
electric guitars and amplified dutar - an Uzbek lute with
two silk strings. The dutar part could be performed on a
fourth electric guitar, an amplified acoustic guitar or any
other amplifed plucked string instrument of an appropriate
register.
‘in those apple trees’ was written for the Bang on a Can
Summer Music Institute, attended by the composer with
funds provided by the Canada Council for the Arts and the
PRS Foundation/Bliss Trust Composer Bursary.
