Biography:

Violist Elizabeth Reid is in high demand as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral musician. She has a strong interest in contemporary music. Elizabeth has been involved in numerous premieres of solo and chamber works in Canada and the United States. Notable highlights include works of Vermont composers, Dennis Bathory-Kitsz, Erik Nielsen, Michael Close, Lydia Lowery Busler, Jacob Morton-Black, Jorge Martin, and Matthew LaRocca; and Canadian composers, David Jaeger, Tawnie Olson, and Derek Healey. Earlier this year at Gallery 345 in Toronto, she premiered David Jaeger’s Sonata for Viola and Piano with the American pianist, Alison Bruce Cerutti.

Elizabeth is the core violist of the innovative and dynamic Vermont, USA new music group TURNmusic, the principal violist of the Middlebury Opera Orchestra, and is the violist of the Northern Third Piano Quartet. She also has played with many of Vermont’s top musical groups, including the Vermont Contemporary Music Ensemble and the Vermont Symphony Orchestra,

In Canada, Elizabeth has played principal viola in the Scarborough Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Banff Opera Orchestra.

Recently Elizabeth performed a solo viola show at ArtsRiot in Burlington, Vermont, including electronic works of American, Canadian, and Finnish composers. In November 2014 she performed a solo viola concert of contemporary American and Canadian works at Gallery 345 in Toronto to great success. She appeared as soloist with the Burlington Civic Symphony in Vermont performing the Martinů Rhapsody-Concerto for viola and orchestra. In the summer of 2018 she appeared with Counterpoint Chorus as the soloist for Vaughan-Williams’ Flos Campi and in music of Janacek, Bloch, Tawnie Olson and Matthew LaRocca. With TURNmusic, Elizabeth has performed at the New Music Gathering in Boston and on the “New Century/New Voices” series at Middlebury College.

From Hamilton, Ontario, Elizabeth studied viola with Lorand Fenyves, Betty-Jean Hagen, and Ralph Aldrich at Western University; and with Rennie Regehr at the Glenn Gould Professional School at the Royal Conservatory of Music. She has also studied chamber music with Trio Accanto and vocal and instrumental improvisation with David Moss at the Time of Music Festival in Viitasaari, Finland.
