Programme Note:
A barycentre is the center of mass of two or more bodies that are orbiting each other, or the point around which they both orbit. “Barycentre” contains two central ideas that both orbit around the idea of energy and impact; one is a repetitive and percussive tutti chord, and the other is a recurring ostinato that primarily appears in the strings but is tossed extensively around the ensemble. All the subsequent material originates from one of these two ideas. “Barycentre” is intended to serve as a short, energetic overture with techniques accessible to younger players.
