Cor et âme
pour cor et piano

Denis Gougeon
Denis Gougeon
Composition Date: 2015
Duration: 00:15:00
Genre: Brass, + Keyboard, Horn

Instrumentation Set Number 1:
  • 1 x Horn
  • 1 x Piano
Programme Note:
The fifthteen-minute COR et ÂME is a single-movement concerted work for horn and orchestra with a title that is obviously tongue-in-cheek, but that also accurately reflects Gougeon's perception of the musician for whom it was written. "It consists," writes Gougeon, "of several musical lines for the soloist and several for the orchestra, like thoughts in motion, thoughts that sometimes return but in slightly varied form. These conversations between horn and orchestra (and within the horn writing itself during the cadenzas) take us into highly contrasting realms of melody and harmony. The work calls upon all sections of the orchestra to accompany this excellent horn (cor) player who gives body and soul (corps et âme) when he plays."
The work is dedicated to John Zirbel, OSM French Horn solo.
