Distinguished musicians and artists, Alexander Tselyakov, Professor at Brandon University, and Lafayette String Quartet, Artists in Residence at the University of Victoria, released a new CD with the program including two piano quintets by famous Russian composer, Dmitry Shostakovich and well-known Canadian composer, Kelly-Marie Murphy.

"In a World of Motion and Distance," by Murphy, was commissioned by the Pender Harbour Chamber Music Festival to celebrate their 10th anniversary in August 2014. It was written for Alexander Tselyakov and the Lafayette String Quartet.

“The initial catalyst for the piece ("In a World of Motion and Distance") was in drawing parallels between the creative process and the annealing of glass and metal," Murphy wrote of her composition.

"The CD is truly stimulating: your way of playing Shostakovich is so authentic and full of character. On first hearing, I found the Murphy Quintet to be an exciting addition to the repertoire, and would predict for it (and your CD) a bright future. Congratulations! " -- Dr. Lawrence Jones.

Alexander Tselyakov is Artistic Director of Pender Harbour Chamber Music Festival in BC and Clear Lake Chamber Music Festival in Manitoba.

This CD has been a major part of a sabbatical project for Professor Tselyakov and he would like to acknowledge the support of Brandon University .
