Wild Birds!
Duo Concertante takes the stage at Creative Hub's Canadian Music Centre October 8th.

Fresh, melodic and yearning–let Canada's premier violin and piano duo guide you through a memorable evening of contemporary Canadian music; Nancy Dahn, violinist and Timothy Steeves, pianist are Duo Concertante. Widely praised for their passion and precision, the Newfoundland-based Duo Concertante will be performing for one night at the Creative Hub's Canadian Music Centre October 8, 2014.

The programme titled, Wild Birds!, features compositions that draw their inspiration from the prairies and mountains of British Columbia by Joceyln Morlock and Chan Ka Nin respectively, while Murray Schafer's creative sources were bird songs and the wild red hair of the former concert master of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Composer Dinuk Wijeratne evokes the sounds of his Sri Lankian heritage and Quebecois composer Denis Gougeon created his somber piece after the death of his father.

Duo Concertante have consistently revealed their passion for new music, commissioning a total of twenty new works for violin and piano from many of Canada’s leading composers. Named NLAC Artist of the Year in May 2010, Duo Concertante have released six acclaimed CDs; their album Wild Bird won a 2011 JUNO award for Schafer’s Duo for Violin and Piano in the Classical Composition of the Year category and their 2013 release Complete Beethoven Sonatas was described as "splendid" by Gramophone. Duo Concertante maintain a busy touring schedule, with frequent performances across North America, as well as in Europe and China. They made their Carnegie Hall debut last season.
