Sound Adventure encourages young learners to explore sound and music fundamentals and to experience how our surroundings inspire our cultural expression. We invite you to take a trip across Canada, where you will discover basic music elements and sounds from the Canadian cultural landscape. You will encounter distinctly Canadian sounds, and sound ideas that cross many cultures. Ultimately, our hope is that you explore Canada's diverse musical landscape through additional examples of Canadian music found throughout the CMC website.
Later in the journey, you will have an opportunity to compose using sounds from the Canadian cultural landscape to embellish a fixed musical background and to listen to excerpts from Barry Truax's Canadian soundscape, Dominion.
The site is graphic- and sound-based only, and is not dependent on text explanation for use.
Soundmarks (natural and man-made sounds) found throughout the landscape are provided courtesy of the World Soundscape Project at Simon Fraser University.

Sound Progression is designed as an introduction to the compositional trends of 20th century Canadian composers. We invite you to examine samples of Canadian music and scores within a larger framework of stylistic trends and significant international musical activities and events. Ultimately, our hope is that you explore Canada's diverse musical heritage from within the music itself, through the examples of music found here on the CMC site and in the larger community of Canadian musical composition.
Are your speakers on? ENJOY!
