ORMTA Young Artist Tour

Every fall, the ORMTA is pleased to present a province-wide concert tour featuring a talented, rising star! This gifted student is awarded this career-building opportunity by winning the ORMTA Provincial Young Artist Competition earlier that same year.

The ORMTA gratefully acknowledges CFMTA sponsorship of Young Artist Tours that take place on even-numbered years.

Read Charissa's biography:

Charissa Vandikas started her music lessons at the age of 2, and won her first national piano competition award at the age of 7. She has since been the recipient of several awards and scholarships from various local, provincial and national competitions including the Ontario Music Festival Association Provincial Competitions, and the Canadian Music Competition National Finals. She received her ARCT diploma at the age of 13, attaining a First Class Honours with Distinction. She performed her orchestral debut with the Greater Toronto Philharmonic Orchestra in October 2013 under the baton of David Fallis.

Charissa has been a featured performer in several gala concerts, as well as the Steingraeber Recital held at the Grand Piano House. She was also a featured performer for the North York Music Festival 2013 open masterclass with Robert Silverman, She has since performed in other masterclasses for Brett Kingsbury, Paul Komen, Juan Zurutuza, Igor Roma, Nata Tsvereli, Olga Kozlova, Ilona Timchenko, Yoram Ish-Hurwitz, and Amparo Lacruz. She was recently awarded the 2014 North York Music Festival Founder's Award, which included a scholarship to attend the Peter de Grote Summer Academy in the Netherlands this past July. While there, she was awarded the Haydn Jeugd Strickorkest Soloist Award, and has been invited back to Europe to perform with the orchestra in 2015. Representing the Markham-Stouffville Branch in the 2014 ORMTA Young Artist Competition, she won the first place award that will send her on a concert tour to several Ontario cities this fall.

She is currently studying with Dr. Michael Esch of The Esch Music Academy, and aims to complete her Licentiate Diploma in January 2015. She is an honour roll student and will be in the Grade 12 Arts Unionville program at Unionville High School this fall where she also plays the trombone in the school ensembles and performs both as a soloist and collaborative pianist. A Newmarket resident, she also teaches piano and performs at MuSix Studio and Services' yearly benefit recital for the Yellow Brick House. She plans to pursue a career in music, and looks forward to the many performance opportunities this coming year.
